In his book A Righteous Brood: Making Your Family the Front Line of Mission Hugh Halter openly shares some of  struggles his family has experienced as they seek to lead others in fulfilling the mission of Christ together.  At a critical point in his life he came to the following conclusion: “The beautiful thing about God’s missional people and missional families is that He not only makes room for the broken, but He assumes we are broken.  Said another way, when you sign up your family to live for God’s purposes in the world, brokenness isn’t something that hinders mission—brokenness is the bedrock of mission.”   So often we think we need to have everything together before we can do something for others, but God uses our brokenness as the basis for extending the influence of His kingdom.

As I think about the people God is bringing together to launch our missional community, this truth seems so evident in our experience.  Looking around our living room during our biweekly house church gatherings I’m amazed and humbled by the stories of God’s heeling that are being written in our midst.  I also see a community that can truly love others on the margins of society in the same way Christ loved us.  I’m excited to see how God will use our collective brokenness to bring heeling to a broken world.

During our last trip to deliver food to friends in one of the tent cities we serve, we arrived about 10 minutes after one man’s tent had burnt to the ground.  Our friends with Food 4 Souls were able to buy him a new tent and we had blankets, food, and clothes with us to help him start over.

Thank God for His timeliness in allowing us to be there right at the moment of this man’s need.  Pray also for the safety of the people we serve during the cold of winter.  Candles are often used as a source of  heat and can be dangerous.

, God is increasing our opportunities to serve people living on the margins of society during 2014.  Please prayerfully consider making a year-end donation to help us pursue this call.  Check out the “Financial Support Information” in the left sidebar for information on mailing donations.  You can also visit https://secure-q.net/Donations/ChrisAssoInter/3549 to give on-line.

Also, I would love to have the chance to talk with you more about what we see God doing this the next year: either in person or via Skype or Google Hangout.  If you'd be interested in hearing more about the work we are doing, send a reply e-mail and we can schedule a time to get together.
