With new growth comes increased spiritual warfare as Satan tries to derail what God is doing in our community and lives. Some of our families have been experiencing increased stress over the last couple of months, especially related to children. How we see people responding to the trials is further evidence of God's work in our midst, though. One member in particular, who used to respond crisis in unhealthy ways, has chosen to begin fasting as she seeks God for help in dealing with family situations.
To encourage the ongoing maturity of Diakonos we have started an eight-part series on Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Peter Scazzero. This is a book I had recently read and thought the principals were relevant to the challenges many in our community were facing. Please pray that God continues to grow Diakonos not only numerically, but in spiritual maturity as we seek to touch the lives of people living on the margins of society.
Pray also for a couple of upcoming events we have planned.
- We are co-sponsoring a forum on homelessness for people living on the south side of Indianapolis on October 28. Pray that God uses this gathering to increase awareness among people of the needs of our friends without homes.
- On November 15, several of our core members will be participating in training by a local organization that prepares people to mentor friends living in homelessness to help them get back on their feet. Pray that this training will be fruitful in seeing more friends helped off the streets.
Some of our Diakonos Community members after a volunteer recognition breakfast hosted by Food 4 Souls, our partner ministry in serving friends without homes.
Our friend, Sam, helps prepared Cowboy Lasagna for one of our service Sundays.
